Our Story

MBL Technologies, Inc. was founded in 2007 by our CEO and President, Matt Buchert, a Service-Disabled, U.S. Navy veteran. Matt started MBL to provided cybersecurity solutions that support HHS’s mission of securing systems and information for the healthcare industry. Today, MBL has evolved into digital solutions firm that provides a variety of services to clients in the federal, civilian and commercial markets.

Matt Buchert
CEO & President

Matt Buchert is MBL’s CEO and co-founder, and a U.S. Navy veteran. He has more than 16 years of IT experience with an emphasis on enterprise platform development. He also has expertise leading project teams in software development and systems engineering projects through the full system development lifecycle. Matt is a diehard fan of the Washington Capitals, and he’s “rocking the red” for the team most weekends.

Denis Lynch
Senior Vice President

Denis Lynch has 23 years of experience designing, developing and implementing audit-defensible security, continuity and resilience programs across the federal government. As MBL’s senior vice president, Denis oversees all aspects of both business operations and client services, including business development, security, IT operations and contracts/project management. Denis is an active member of ASIS International and ISC2. His work on behalf of these organizations helps him tailor solutions to our clients’ needs while improving MBL internal operations. Outside of work, Denis is an avid runner and an enthusiastic and unequivocally tall youth lacrosse coach.

Courtney Schiffman
Director, Delivery

Courtney has more than 18 years of experience as a trusted cybersecurity subject matter expert and advisor. She has managed private and public sector portfolios with a focus on achieving strategic results while defining and implementing tailored solutions spanning numerous security disciplines. With two small kids at home, Courtney doesn’t consider herself to be “fun” anymore, but her interests in travel, painting, and passion for cooking suggest otherwise.

Ilene Yarnoff
Director, Healthcare and Commercial

Ilene has more than 25 years of experience leading and delivering cybersecurity, privacy and information technology programs for the Federal Government. She has a proven track record for successfully leading cross-functional teams, and developing and implementing policies, procedures, processes and solutions designed to improve business functionality and efficiency. Ilene is a Washington D.C. native who is committed to her Washington Football Team and Capitals. She enjoys spending time with her family, and loves the outdoors and CrossFit.

Joel Schwarz,
Director, J.D., CIPP

Joel is a highly skilled and experienced consultant and attorney specializing in privacy, cybersecurity, cyber intelligence, compliance oversight and intellectual property rights. He is also an adjunct professor at Albany Law School, where he teaches courses on cybercrime, cybersecurity and privacy. Previously, Joel was an intelligence community privacy officer, a prosecutor with the Department of Justice and the New York Attorney General’s office, and counsel on e-commerce for MetLife. He’s an avid traveler who’s been to six of the seven continents and aspires to visit the 7th, Antarctica.
